This polish is from Essie's 2013 Encrusted Treasures holiday collection. While some of them are either boring or poorly executed, On A SIlver Platter is--in my opinion--the best polish in the collection. First of all, even before you put it on, it looks incredible in the bottle. The base is a strong pale gold shimmer, which becomes more yellow almost glows in certain angles. The glitters come in two different sizes, the tiny ones are probably a quarter of the size of the large ones. They are indigo colored, and holographic, glimmering and adding to the glow of the shimmer. At the same time, they aren't too flashy. Overall, the effect is very elegant without being boring. Now, you can wear this polish on its own, by applying at least two coats. It will be nice, but because the shimmer is pretty heavy, it will take away the holographic qualities of the glitters. Instead, I would recommend putting on a coat of your favorite pale gold polish (OPI Glitzerland and Orly Luxe are good examples). Wait until it's set, and then put on a coat of this polish. You can go heavy or light on this layer, either way it'll look fantastic. And then...don't put on a top coat. The shine from the top coat will make the polish loose some of those qualities that make it look like a fancy jewel. The glitter will tend to embed itself somewhat into whatever other polish you put underneath, so it won't snag or otherwise annoy you.Another great quality of this polish is that it's quick-drying. So if you use over another polish, it will tend to help that one dry quicker. It also glides quite easily over the nail and it won't clump up because it's drying too quickly either. It will chip a bit if you don't use a good base coat, however, most of it will be minor and easily be covered again. Interestingly, if you do dent or otherwise damage the polish before it dries, it'll tend to add to the 'antique' look this polish will give your nails. This polish is supposed to cost ~$10, but you can easily get it online for almost half of that. Now, Sephora has a collection called "Sparklers" that has a dupe of this color called "Law of Attraction", as well as two others that seem to be the same except with pink and green glitters. I haven't used any of those polishes, but they are $12.50 for roughly the same amount (maybe even less!). There also aren't any formula issues with the Essie to consider the Sephora version as an alternative. So, as if it wasn't obvious as this point, I would definitely recommend giving this polish a try. It ticks all the marks, and for ~$6, you can't go wrong.
