The purple passionflower is a beautiful, yet unusual looking flower native to the Southeastern United States. Historically, all parts of this plant have been documented as a food source and medicine by Native Americans. The Cherokee, for example, have been known to use the flower as a mild sedative for restlessness, anxiety, nervous stomach, high blood pressure and symptoms of menopause.
