Shimmery and metallic nail colors help add dimension and extra shine to your manicure. Opal and pearlescent nail colors have been especially popular this season, thanks to the glazed donut nail trend. Magnetic nail polish has also taken off with the velvet nail trend. Matte Nails vs Glossy Nails
Matte top coats are especially popular during the fall seasons, so we want to know...do you stick with the trends or remain loyal to your favorite top coat? Matte nails are chic and it's nice to change up your look every once in a while, right? You can even get creative and mix both matte and glossy textures in your nail art designs (i.e. the classic French manicure).
Matte Nails
Although matte top coats aren't formulated to last quite as long as their shinier counterparts, it's still a trend, so use it as an opportunity to change up your look. PRO TIP: Since matte formulas tend to dry quicker, apply in thin layers and allow each layer to completely dry before applying the next. Also, since most chipping starts at the tip of the nail, cap the edge with your matte top coat when applying for added protection.
Glossy Nails
Think of your traditional top coat. Maybe it's CND Vinylux Long Wear Top Coat. Maybe it's the OPI GelColor Stay Shiny Top Coat. It's always great practice to apply a top coat after applying your color to increase your manicure's longevity. Not only does a glossy top coat lock in the color, it adds additional shine, giving you that "just-stepped-out-of-the-salon" look & feel.

Velvet Nails
Velvet nails have been popular for a while now, but we started seeing more of this trend around the beginning of the fall season. If you've never heard of the velvet nail trend before, it's essentially what it sounds like. It's achieved by creating a velvet-like effect using magnetic nail polish. This polish includes tiny magnetic particles that are activated by a wand, so you can create your own unique look. Last year, OPI released their Velvet Vision collection, which had 6 magnetic gel polish colors. The color shown above, "Teal Transe," is from that collection.
Glazed Donut Nails
Thanks to Hailey Bieber and her nail artist, the glazed donut nail trend grew to instant popularity a couple of months ago. The look itself is very simple, which is probably why it became so popular (you can probably recreate it right now with what you have). Essentially it's a white or sheer base, topped with an iridescent or pearlescent topper (which creates that glazed effect). The trend was so popular that it's now extended into the fall season with a twist -- instead of using a white color as the base, use a brown color, and you get the "chocolate glazed donut nail" trend. The look above was created using Essie Expressie "Cold Brew" and Expressie FX "Oil Slick".
