Acrylic Powder vs Dipping Powder
Before we continue, it's important to note that acrylic powder is different from regular dip powder. Let's start with the difference in textures. Regular dip powder is grounded finer than acrylic powder. Therefore, if you were to try to use acrylic powder as regular dip powder, you may get a really thick application and uneven results.
Let's take a look at some other differences between acrylic powder vs dipping powder.
Composition: Acrylic powder is made to create a thick consistency that can be applied to natural nails or nail extensions. This is caused by the polymers reacting with the liquid monomer. Dip powder, on the other hand, is of a finer consistency and made to work with a special adhesive base coat and activator.
Application: Acrylic powder is applied by dipping a brush into a monomer liquid and then the powder, which creates a bead that is used as a base for creating the nail enhancement. Dip powder requires a base coat to be applied first. Then the nail is dipped into the powder, activator is applied.
Drying Process: Acrylic powder requires the use of an LED/UV lamp to cure (similar to gel polish). Dip powder does NOT require curing under a lamp.
Removal: The removal process is similar for both systems. The only difference is that the removal process may take a little longer for acrylic powder than regular dip powder due to the thickness.
Durability: Both systems can last up to several weeks with proper care and add durability to your nails. However, because acrylic powder is thicker in consistency, it provides a little more extra durability than regular dip powder.
So in conclusion, it is NOT advised to use acrylic powder as regular dip powder. Acrylic powder consists of a slightly different chemical makeup and require slightly different processes and liquids for the application process.
