Not sure where to begin? Let's quickly break down the difference between gel polish and nail lacquer.

Gel polish is cured by UV (ultraviolet) wavelengths hitting molecules called photo initiators. These wavelengths activate those molecules, which is why a UV or LED lamp is required to cure gel polish. Gel polish also lasts longer than traditional nail lacquer. Gel polish removal requires soaking (typically 10-15 minutes, depending on the type of top coat used).

UV lamps take from 8-10 mins to cure gel polishes.

LED lamps take 30-45 second to cure gel polishes.

Regular nail lacquer does NOT require a lamp. The formula dries itself over time. One of the great things about nail lacquer is the easy removal. No soaking required. Just grab a bottle of nail polish remover or acetone, a cotton ball, and gently wipe away the polish.

Next, pick a good base coat. The base coat helps create a barrier that protects your nails from the nail polish color.
