New York Fashion Week was last month, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped talking about the trends! The event gave insight as to what we’ll be seeing on the streets and the runway this year. Everything, from the bold and colorful, to sculptural and futuristic, here are 8 key trends from NYFW.
1. Satin
Often paired with tactile fabrics like fur and velvet, satin added a romantic twist to a number of NYFW catwalks. Paired with belting and strong tailoring, satin is set to be one of the biggest fashion trends of 2019.
2. Tonal Looks
Tonal looks pair colors from similar palettes. They never clash, but they don’t exactly match. This look really works well with neutrals and bold colors. A play on different textures was seen on the catwalks, combining leather and wool to create drama.
3. Pantsuits
Ladies, make a statement with this trend. The Fall 2019 pantsuit is very much about romantic soft power, which calls back to the 1920s. Androgyny is taking over the fashion world and the pantsuit is here to prove that you can look chic and sexy.
4. Statement Coats
Even the polar vortex can’t put a pause on fashion. This off-runway trend was seen primarily among attendees trying to stay high glamour. Rather than being a neutral piece that pulls the outfit together, the best coats were textured and added complexity to outfits.
5. Futuristic Silver
Metallics are here to stay, as golds and bronzes made appearances on the runway. Silver outfits with sci-fi shoulders and space suit padding created a futuristic look, giving off major late 90’s vibes.
6. Romantic Ruffles
Designer Tomo Koizumi’s candy-colored dresses ruled the catwalk. It’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a lot more of this trend in the seasons to come, especially with spring and summer on the horizon.
7. Creative Layering
Pants and long-sleeved tops added beneath dresses and sheer layers revealing unusual proportions, this look was spotted across the catwalk.
8. Sculptural Necklines
Asymmetrical necklines were everywhere at NYFW - dropping, twisting, creating sculptural shapes.
